Background of the Study
Missionary schools in Nigeria have played a pivotal role in providing quality education, especially in areas where government schools are underfunded or inaccessible. In Plateau State, many of these schools are supported by donor funds, which are crucial for their operation, infrastructural development, and educational initiatives. However, the management of donor funds in these schools is often fraught with challenges related to accountability and transparency.
Despite the significant role of donor funding in enhancing the educational quality of missionary schools, there have been concerns about how these funds are utilized. In some cases, mismanagement, lack of proper auditing, and insufficient monitoring mechanisms have led to financial misappropriations, undermining the intended purpose of the donations (Yusuf & Danjuma, 2023). Furthermore, the absence of robust financial management frameworks in some missionary schools raises concerns regarding their financial accountability.
This study seeks to examine the impact of donor funds on the financial accountability in missionary schools in Plateau State. It aims to identify how these funds are managed and the effect of effective management on the overall financial performance and transparency of the schools.
Statement of the Problem
While donor funding is essential for the growth of missionary schools in Plateau State, there is growing concern about how these funds are managed. Many schools face challenges related to financial mismanagement, lack of clear financial reporting, and insufficient accountability frameworks. As a result, stakeholders—such as parents, teachers, and donors—may lose trust in the institutions' ability to manage these funds appropriately. Understanding the impact of donor funds on the financial accountability of missionary schools is essential for ensuring that these funds achieve their intended purpose.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on missionary schools in Plateau State that receive donor funding. It will exclude public and private schools not supported by donor funds. Limitations include possible resistance from school administrators to disclose financial records and the challenge of accurately assessing the impact of donor funds due to varying levels of transparency.
